Creating an exceptional retail experience that’s as differentiated as their products, adidas set out to use data to eliminate the paradox of choice, and give runners the insight they need to make an informed purchase decision. To bring the Run Genie strategy to life, Engine Digital was tasked with defining an end-to-end customer experience that enables the sales team to guide the purchase decision through data visualization and connected hardware.

The shopping experience. Streamlined.

All runners want to be one with their shoes, but when faced with an endless array of styles and fit, shopping can be a daunting process for any level of athlete. Run Genie delivers data during the in-store experience to take the guess out of getting the right shoe. But it also revives traditional retail with in-store wearables, data, and insights to create a better shopping experience.

A global retail sales team. Empowered.

We collaborated with the adidas Digital Future Team to meet the needs of Run Genie’s other audience: the adidas sales associate. When Run Genie rolled out to flagship stores worldwide, it put data visualization in their hands. And with it, product education, an understanding of customer needs, and spot-on recommendations, all backed by data.

Higher conversion rates. Visualized.

With Run Genie’s pods attached to their shoes, customers are instructed to go for a short run. The connected hardware goes to work, analyzing the foot as it interacts with the ground. Data is captured, and visualized with Run Genie’s tablet app while staff educates their customers while making product recommendations. This interaction, facilitated by the Run Genie experience, resulted in higher than normal purchase rates.

Extending the experience.

After a visit to an adidas store, Run Genie switches roles from customer service tool, to customer relationship manager. Data captured in-store is used to continue an educated product discussion with customers via email. Repeat visits to adidas are inspired with correspondence to past users from Run Genie about new products that best fit with a customer’s athletic profile.
